RENAISSANCE – ANTHOLOGY OF LUTE MUSIC

This collection presents a cross-section of some of the most remarkable works for lute, vihuela, and lyra viol from the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries transcribed in modern notation for guitar. It offers a selection drawn from a wealth of compositions and arrangements by both well-known and lesser-known composers, many of whom remain familiar to audiences today.

These works provide a fascinating insight into the diverse genres and styles of the European musical tradition of the Renaissance. They are accompanied by explanations of their theoretical background, historical origins, and a number of contemporary anecdotes about the musicians and composers associated with them.

The aim of this collection is to foster an appreciation of this exceptionally vibrant period and its beautiful and ingenious musical works. I hope that it will bring the reader—and, of course, the performer—as much joy and wonder as it has brought me.
